Louise Quirke is a self taught painter and illustrator who began doing cartoons in earnest in 1993 when she qualified as teacher of 11-18 year olds. Finding the text for her subject (Italian) to be very dreary, she started drawing her way through lessons using an overhead projector. This went on for five years during which time she also wrote and illustrated stories for children.
In 1998 she had the opportunity to go and live in Rome (where she worked for a publishing company) and for two years she put her cartoons to one side and focused on serious paintings of Italian Landscapes.
Since 2000 she has been back in the UK and still works full-time in an office to pay the bills but divides her creative time between her “doodles” and serious paintings. Louise is working on her latest children’s story.
