Born in Bristol in 1945, Anthony studied painting at the West of England Academy of Art. From Art School he went into the theatre, starting work as a Scenic Artist for the Bristol Old Vic Company. He soon became a Theatre Designer and worked for sometime as Head of Design for the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. In 1996 he moved to Stratford-upon-Avon to join the Royal Shakespeare Company as Design co-ordinator. In 2003 he started painting full time.
Inspired by the effect of strong light and shadows on the subject, he has painted many architectural studies as well still life and marine subjects. His work has been influenced over the last few years by frequent visits to Italy, and in particular, Venice. Anthony’s work captures Venice through the seasons, throughout each day or night, in sunshine and in rain. His love affair with this most romantic of cities still has many paintings to be committed to canvas. Anthony has exhibited at several galleries, around the UK.
