Alex Williams was born in Reading and spent his childhood in Cambridgeshire. He trained at St.Martins School of Art under the tutelage of celebrated pop artist Peter Blake.
After a short spell in teaching in Hertfordshire, Alex set up his own dehagn and print studio in Hay on Wye. It was in Welsh Border country that he became very successful with his paintings of agriculture, farm landscapes and animals. As he says:- “The countryside there demanded top be painted with an urgency that could not be ignored”.
Alex’s images have been used in a number of ways including Limited Edition Prints, Tableware & Fine Bone China, and Greetings Cards.
He has appeared on television numerous times both in the UK and Australia. Alex fronted an art teaching programme filmed by ArtWorks, and most recently has filmed several short documentaries on Modern Masters, soon to be shown on Channel Four. Discussing his television work Alex says:- “The work I have done for television, which is about demystifying modern art has effected me. I have become a victim of my own teaching. The subject is still all important, but so is the way you see it”.
Alex has exhibited in numerous group and one man shows. His work is represented in many public and commercial arenas, the National Musuem of Wales have recently purchased a number of his landscapes of the Welsh Borders – the place that he loves so much.
